Told and Untold: The Photo Stories of Kati Horna in the Illustrated Press.

Americas Society (New York), September 14 - December 17, 2016.

Told and Untold was the first exhibition in the United States dedicated to the Hungarian-born Mexican photographer Kati Horna (Budapest, 1912 - Mexico City, 2000). This critically-acclaimed exhibition, which I co-curated in collaboration with Christina de León, was based on my academic work on Horna and benefitted from research at repositories in Mexico, the United States and Europe. Showcasing a careful selection of photographs, contact sheets, montage cuttings, periodicals, and personal albums of her work, Told and Untold emphasized Horna’s career-long involvement with the illustrated press. The exhibition also underscored how Horna’s involvement with anarchism during the Spanish Civil War shaped the course of her subsequent career as an exiled photographer and artist in Mexico.
